A SWOT analysis helps tourism managers to assess tourism potential and helps managers to decide what type of indicators will be useful in monitoring trends and progress towards achieving goals of a tourism destination. A SWOT analysis should give a succinct analysis of a destination’s assets and short comings and reveal the opportunities and challenges it faces.
Strengths:They are expressed as natural advantages of the tourist product of the region in comparison with the competitive tourist areas. These advantages include the resources, the structure of the socio- economical network and the other factors that determine the efficiency and productivity of the tourist activities.
Weaknesses:As opposed to the strengths, the weaknesses are disadvantages that are possible to act as a restriction for the tourist development. They are factors that, with their negative influence, reduce the productivity and efficiency of either some or all the parameters that are connected with the tourist development and at the same time they are recorded as problems. These conditions have or are inclined to have positive influence in the development of the tourist wave and help the efforts to enrich the tourist product and to strengthen the tourist supply and competitiveness.
Threats: As opposed to the previous section it concerns the current or future Conditions of the <<general environment >> they have a negative influence on the efforts to develop the tourist product of the region. In addition, they threat its viable development in the sense that they sometimes create new forms of problems for the organization and function of the economical activities as they are today and sometimes they make the efforts for their future improvement difficult.
