NaturNet Plus portal

The NaturNet Plus portal is designed and implemented as a virtual database. It uses principles of web services, Naturnet URM, social network sites, Geoportal4everybody and semantic web. It integrates different technologies like GIS, e-learning, multimedia, and virtual reality. Important part is integration of social networking tools. These services are not implemented on the NaturNet Plus portal directly, but they are implemented as virtual services on different places in Europe. Different training and education methods are included in this platform including class room training, self studying, interactive training toolsanddistance training (remote training).

Tools for training

The NaturNet Plus training platform includes the following types of  tools:

  • Social networking tools based on SimpleCMS including
    • Virtual libraries
    • Educational materials
    • Content sharing tools
    • Connection to Social Networks
    • Application Integrator
  • Uniform Resource Manager tools, including
    • Metadata tools,
    • SDI supporting tools,
  • Video lecture tools

Therefore the tools implemented in the training platform for education are as follows:

Different desktop GIS tools could be used as external applications. Janitor and Topol will be mainly used to support education. These tools are not direct part of the solution. They are more related to educational content. The portal is implemented with initial menu and content, all will be continuously updated by the project team. It will be possible to modify selected parts by external users.

Geohosting
Karel Charvat, Martin Vlk, Petr Horak 2010-08-21

The Geohosting system is able to work both with data stored directly on the internal server and with information accessible via web services. Data is saved in geodatabase by default, but the system is able to work also with data in individual files of different formats. Data repositories are represented by the File Repository and the GeoDatabase. Individual SW system components are:

  • DataMan
  • MapMan

Catalogue client
Stepan Kafka, Karel Charvat 2010-08-21

Catalogue client allows search through connected metadata catalogues by catalogue service OGC CSW. Data can be search by text or by defined elements defined in standards (OGC CSW 2.0.2, AP ISO, INSPIRE). Basic elements are dataset and services. Basic elements can be extended by user demands but they will not be searchable on other catalogues. First version of catalogue used cascading of multiple services. This version support adding services independently on each other.

This application interact with map viewer so it can be added map services into map by one click. Another interaction is with metadata extractor. Documents or web pages stored by extractor can be opened also by one click.

Services can be added from list of predefined services or it can be added by direct link
