Majority of the visitors of the region are from Latvia, attracted by the beach and respective range of offered activities in summertime. As to the international tourists, they mostly come fro other Central Baltic countries –

 In the late 19th and early 20th century, summer cottages began sprouting up near the sea gulf. Only seldomly were construction rights given to Latvians. Over the years, the range of summer-dwellers expanded. Saulkrasti was a popular holiday resort with Latvian cultural society in the first third of the 20th century. 

The EU-funded projects FutureFarm, agriXchange and CAPIGI-network which joined together in GeoFARMatics 2010 in Cologne, Germany, from 24th-26th November 2010, recognised that agri-food and rural ICT must be an essential part of the European Digital Agenda for 2020. The process of building the Rural Knowledge Society started by the Valencia declaration helps to reduce the digital divide between rural and urban communities in Europe. However, new changes in the global food supply, growing demands on food quality and quantity, energy demands and environmental aspects introduce new demands on future knowledge management. The objective of future knowledge management should be to enable the agri-food and rural communities to react adequately to these changes. For this reason, knowledge management has to become part of the agri-food and rural production system. This requires a clear vision, which has to be based on discussions with farmers, experts, politicians and other stakeholders.

Strengths:

- Ample recreation recourses (lakes, rivers, forests, the cost line).

- Ample natural curative resources.

- Rural landscape which is little urbanized.

- Ample cultural and historic resources (ethic culture, architecture, museums, old towns).

- Four tourism objects listed on the UNESC world heritage list.

- Hospitable residents.

- Relatively new tourism region.

- Comparatively low (if compared to Western Europe) tourism service prices (food, public transport).

- Quite dense road network.

- Historic, cultural and ethnic relations between Lithuania and other countries (Poland, Latvia, Russia, Germany, Israel, USA).

- Convenient geographic location – close to the huge tourism markets – Germany, Scandinavia, Finland, Russia, Poland.

- Two main EU transport corridors (East – West, North – South) cross Lithuania.

Weaknesses:

- Insufficient shaping of Lithuanian image as a state.

- It is difficult for tourists from non-EU countries to enter the country because of the visa regime.

- Passenger railway transport services are of not sufficient quality.

- Undeveloped internal water transport as well as berth infrastructure.

- Public institutions do not pay sufficient attention to tourism development.

- Poor tourism information system (the lack of information on different languages, difficulty getting information on holidays, information is not relevant).

- Insufficient choice in entertainment and leisure activities.

- Insufficiently developed conference tourism infrastructure.

- Insufficient focus on local tourism planning and marketing.

- Undeveloped off-season tourism.

- Difficulties to get into Lithuania by sea and land (insufficient quality of Polish roads).

- No railway tracks in the South – North direction.

Opportunities:

- Possibilities to use the EU structural funds in implementing different tourism service, infrastructure, marketing projects.

- Development of resort tourism.

- Development of wellness and recreation tourism.

- Development of interregional importance tourism roads.

- The need for tourism products expanding the business areas (conference, cruise, rural tourism, ecological tourism, active tourism, cultural cognitive tourism).

- Improved investment climate, attractiveness.

- Development of common international routes with the neighboring countries.

Threats:

- Insufficient funding to promote tourism sector development opportunities.

- Incapacity to establish the image of Lithuania as a sea state.

- Irrational use of investment in tourism.

- The competition of close tourism markets.

- Incapacity to use EU structural funds and other foreign support.

- Increasing migration of youth.

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is a collaborative project to create a free editable map of the world.

The maps are created using data from portable GPS devices, aerial photography, other free sources or simply from local knowledge. Both rendered images and the vector graphics are available for download under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 2.0 licence.^[2]

OpenStreetMap was inspired by sites such as Wikipedia; the map display features a prominent 'Edit' tab and a full revision history is maintained. Registered users can upload GPS track logs and edit the vector data using the given editing tools.^[3]

From February 7^th to 11^th, 2011, Havana will host the 14th edition of the Convention and International Fair Informática 2011 that will take place in the Havana´s Palacio de las Convenciones and the PABEXPO Fairgrounds.

“Convergent Technologies: integration and independence”, is the central theme of our Informatics meeting in Havana. We invite you to a scientific-technological discussion, as well as to the presentation of projects and initiatives on the main subjects summoned in each one of the events taking part of the Convention and the Fair.

1. The ancient Medieval Tower, called  Saracen. Situated almost to peak in the Capo di  Alì, on the side north, the Tower, from the circular structure, was built in the Middle Ages, around 1600, to tell the inhabitants of the near country of the arrival of the pirates, that still in that times were in our seas.
2. The Church of St. Rocco, built in 1700. After the 1908 earthquake worked as Church shelter and only in 1956 the new Church was inaugurated in masonry, widened with the sacristy and the canonical house.
3. Anciently in Alì Terme different Chapels existed, also a lot of of which must be destroyed. Among these we remember: the Chapel of Saint Lucy,  the Chapel of Saint Maria of the Letter; the Chapel of Saint Maria of the Idria, the private Chapel of the Fred, the Chapel of Saint Maria Maggiore, the Chapel of the Madonna of the SS. Rosary, the chapel of the blessed Eustachia, the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, posts to the outside of the Female College "Maria SS. Ausiliatrice", college with a historical importance: situated next to the beach, in a position that makes it one of the most beautiful of Sicily, now turned into a school
4. Thermal establishments: the Thermal baths Granada  Cassibile, builds in 1500 and the Thermal baths  Marino, of more recent epoch, the Thermal baths Acque  Grazia
 
5. Have a historical interest the different headstones  posted on the external walls of the thermal establishments, that sing the purity of the waters.
6. The splendid beach with his crystalline waters, that make Alì Terme an important bathing center of the Sicilia.

 Information system

Alì Terme has municipality webpage www.comune.aliterme.me.it  and has an tourism office, where the tourists can find information, depliants and informative material on the small city.

This information is addressed not only for real, but for  potential Al’ Terme  visitors. Articles about Al’ Terme  are regularly published in regional and daily newspapers. Lot of leaflets and brochures are made.

Support for tourism

There is one girl  working in Alì Terme  Tourism Information centre, The Major’s opinion is  that tourism in Alì Terme is one of the potential main priorities, above all the thermal tourism.

Market strategy

For increasing tourism profit in Alì Terme, the Municiplaity is    actively participating in national tourism exibitions ( like Bit Milano), and is  looking for cooperation partners in Italy  and abroad,  trying to use Internet more and more.

Municipality is working for each tourist and  for specific groups of interests ( nature, history), for families with children, for cyclists, school students, pensioners and work collectives. In future the  municipality  plans to cooperate with hotels and tour operators from Taormina and from Messina  for making 1 day tours to Al’ Terme.

In Alì Terme Municipality  offers  to go for guided excursions, to taste home- made vine, to go by boats, to walk and enjoy nature and is planning  to do many more activities.

The process model methodology contains standard rules for decomposition of individual activities into elementary steps. Groups of logically connected actions are created, which provide necessary decomposition of system on the base of user requirements, with use of managing principles and supporting mechanisms. This area of methodology covers experience of individual expert areas from the viewpoint of nature park basic goals and mission. Using factual processes, this part forms overall hierarchy of the system.

The REGEO process model is in fact the formal description of functionality of REGEO system on the base of user requirements. A process is a set of activities targeted to offer optimal information to user according his profile. A process model is a management tool. It is intended to formally describe processes, sub processes and activities. It was created the formal process graph to enhance the understand ability of the model.

HSLayers (Help Service + OpenLayers) combines capabilities of ExtJS and OpenLayers and several helping scripts to establish truly Web GIS applications. Development started in 2007. In 2009, after 2 years of development, it was released under conditions of GNU General Public License 3.

This application interact with map viewer so it can be added map services into map by one click. Another interaction is with metadata extractor. Documents or web pages stored by extractor can be opened also by one click.

Catalogue

Client allows searching metadata in accessible catalogues by OGC CSW. There is possibility to show detail informations in founded records or in accessible services connect them into map web client.

Map

Client allows viewing maps based on OGC web services and other formats (Google maps, KML, MapServer, GML)

Basic functions:

• Viewing web services(OGC WMS, WFS) selected by user from catalogue or directly by address.
• Saving user defined map('project') on local hard drive a rereading of this saved composition (OGC WMC)
• Distance and area measurements.
• Searching in map.
• Inserting user defined objects into map.
• Large format print in PDF.
• Showing legends, metadata and querying in map.

Other

Functions for maintaing geographics DBs, metadata storage etc. are available for logged users.
