Francavilla di Sicilia has 5300 inhabitants and is located in the Alcantara valley in Sicily. It is one of the most important centres of the valley, and this position continues to have a positive influence on the social and economic development of the town. The production of oranges and vegetables has been the economys pulling element until the middle of XX century. The 70s have been characterised by a building expansion.
The most important economic activities are: paper-factory, sweet-producing industry, handicraft, services and commerce. Floriculture and plant nursery are in expansion, strengthened by the construction of equipped buildings for the cultivation of flowers and ornamental plants.
